Go Furness

News. What's going on in Furness

Creative Video Showcase

Furness has a thriving creative sector, and there’s some particularly exciting output coming from the area’s media producers.

As the winter nights start to draw in, we thought it’d be nice to showcase some of the work of two of the creative businesses, who are forging a name for themselves right here in Furness. So, for your viewing pleasure we introduce some chosen works from Dreamtime Film and We Make Media.

Dreamtime Film is a film company based near Ulverston, Cumbria, producing creative films, documentaries and large scale sensor-based video installations, as well as live multi-camera vision mixing for corporate events, club nights and festivals.

We Make Media is a creative media agency based in South Cumbria, producing video and online projects. They work with businesses, educational institutions, charities and individuals to produce projects of any scale, and also develop documentaries and short films.

So sit back, relax and enjoy some of the best bits of the work they’ve been producing over the past 12 months.

Live Before You Die
Dreamtime Film

A modern day dreamtime – the freedom of a life on the road with horses in an English Summer. This film was shortlisted for ThinkSync Films’ competition 2008, and was shot entirely on clockwork super 8mm camera.

Raptors
We Make Media

Corio Raptor Care and Rehabilitation is a centre specialising in the care and rehabilitation of birds of prey, or raptors. This short documentary was originally conceived as a project for Channel 4’s 3 Minute Wonder slot, but this longer version provides a deeper insight into the selfless work of Nick and Anji Hendersen.

Slave Labour
Dreamtime Film

Selected as part of Youth Producing Change, the first exclusively youth-produced program of short films, at the Human Rights Watch International 2008. Two teenage girls embark on an eye-opening journey as they discover the dark truth behind the clothing industry and take a stand for change.

Toe By Toe
We Make Media

Toe By Toe is a peer mentoring scheme which enables prisoners with reading skills to teach other prisoners who cannot read well, or who cannot read at all – of which there are over 50,000 at any one time. With unprecedented access to a Category B prison, the aim of this film was to allow the prisoners themselves to talk about the benefits of the work they do and is part of a drive to have the scheme adopted throughout the UK prison system.

Actor3: this is LIVErpool
Dreamtime Film

(re)Actor3 is the international forum exploring the emerging field of Digital Live Art (the intersection of Live Art, Computing and Human-Computer Interaction). This short film talks with some of the artists during the evenings entertainment.

The Great Swim
We Make Media

A short film documenting one woman’s participation in the first Great North Swim in Windermere. It was the first mass participation swim event of its kind in Great Britain, and it was the first time she’d trained for any kind of swimming event.
