Talking home business in Barrow

On Thursday 5th June, Emma Jones, author of Waterstones business book of the month ‘Spare Room Start Up’, presented her Northwest book launch in Barrow. The event was hosted by Furness Enterprise at Waterside House and attracted guests from as far as Scotland!

Emma kicked off her presentation by saying how delighted she was to be in Barrow-in-Furness, which has just been crowned the most enterprising place in the Northwest. Emma went on to talk about her own background in starting and growing businesses from home before covering some of the handy tips and advice offered in her book, which is a stylish and friendly guide for anyone wanting to start a business from home. Her tips on the night ranged from ‘stand up and smile when you make a sales call’ to ‘paint your home office in light colours to make it appear bigger’ – there was something for everyone in this light-hearted, yet informative, presentation.

Feedback from the event has been very positive, reflected in guest comments. Michelle Davies said “Fantastic, thought-provoking presentation. Emma enthuses people, very professional. Venue excellent, my first time.” Fellow guest Heather Bestel said: “Very enjoyable and informative. Impressed by the gift of the book – thank you. Very pleasant atmosphere. Staff very approachable. Thank you for a lovely event.”

A limited number of copies of Emma’s book ‘Spare Room Start Up’ are available at Furness Enterprise for start-up businesses receiving support.

The next Enterprise Masterclass will be on 25th June with speakers David Williams of Impact Development Group and Matthew Mavers of Cater-Kwik. Please contact Michelle Proctor at Furness Enterprise for details.
